The Trajectory of JANKEN Magazine

Launched in July 2023, JANKEN Magazine is a real estate and tourism publication for those interested in investing in Hokkaido’s short-term rental market.

We’ve gained significant traffic by providing valuable, locally-sourced information. We’re proud to have surpassed 60 articles, maintaining a consistent output of 2-3 posts per month.

JANKEN Magazine’s Unique Approach: A Blend of Real Estate Investment and Tourism

JANKEN Magazine is organized into four key categories: “Investment,” “Startup,” “Management,” and “Tourism.” While the first three focus on real estate investment in Hokkaido, the “Tourism” section highlights key resort areas like Niseko and Furano.

With 41 articles on investment and 19 on tourism, we cover our core business of real estate sales, short-term rental investment, and property management. By also covering tourism, which is crucial to the success of these ventures, we establish ourselves as a trustworthy, comprehensive service provider.

How the Dual-Focus on Real Estate and Tourism Led to the Success of JANKEN Magazine

The strategic decision to cover both real estate investment and tourism has significantly enhanced JANKEN Magazine’s media influence.

Search Queries for Real Estate Investment
Search Queries for Tourism

These are the search queries used by visitors just before landing on the JANKEN website. The queries on the left, related to real estate investment, show very low impression counts, indicating a niche search demand. In contrast, the tourism-related queries on the right have consistently high impression counts, showing they are widely searched keywords.

By strategically covering both of these contrasting categories, JANKEN Magazine has successfully attracted a broad range of visitors.

Catering to Niche and Mainstream Demands

Let’s take a closer look at the search queries for our real estate investment and tourism articles.

The image above shows the search queries for an article in our “Investment” category, titled “Why Niseko, Hokkaido, Attracts So Many Foreigners: A Real Estate Investment Perspective.” While the big-ticket keyword “Niseko” is present, the search queries are dominated by niche terms like “Why is Niseko popular?” and “Why are there so many foreigners in Niseko?”

These searches are driven by people looking to understand the fundamental reasons behind Niseko’s tourism boom—an investor’s perspective, not a tourist’s. Our real estate articles successfully meet this specific demand.

In contrast, the image shows the search queries for an article in our “Tourism” category, titled “Top 12 Recommended Lunch Spots in Furano! Child-Friendly, Stylish Cafes, and Local Favorites.” As a pure tourism-focused article, the search queries are filled with popular keywords like “Furano lunch” and “Furano gourmet.”

These searches come from the perspective of tourists planning a trip to Furano. By providing tourism content with a light touch on investment, we generate significant traffic from the general public, which greatly increases the value of the JANKEN website.

Thus, by publishing articles for both investors and tourists, JANKEN Magazine successfully serves two key roles at the same time:
・It acts as the public face of JANKEN’s real estate investment business.
・It serves as a powerful media tool to boost JANKEN’s brand visibility.

Trends in Popular Articles

Our most popular real estate articles all focus on “Niseko and foreigners.” While other areas like Furano and Lake Toya are also developing as resorts, Niseko’s name recognition and impact remain unmatched. It’s clear that those looking at Hokkaido from an investment perspective are most interested in foreign capital and the growing inbound demand in the Niseko area.

Conversely, our most popular tourism articles focus on Furano. While areas like Kitanomine, adjacent to the ski resort, are developing, Furano is still seen as a classic Hokkaido tourist destination. We believe this is why our casual, travel-focused content generates so much traffic.

It’s also notable that a traditional Chinese article made it into the top 3, underscoring the success of our multilingual strategy. By providing Japanese, English, and Traditional Chinese versions for most articles, we successfully attract visitors from both domestic and international markets.

International Exposure and Capital Inflow into Hokkaido’s Short-Term Rental Market

Recognizing the immense inbound tourism demand in Hokkaido, we’ve committed to a three-language strategy. The high click-through rates on our translated articles prove this was a crucial and necessary initiative. We will continue to actively engage with international investors and travelers, as this is a vital step toward attracting foreign capital to Kukan Inc. and, by extension, to Hokkaido’s short-term rental and tourism industries as a whole.

The Vision and Future of JANKEN Magazine

JANKEN Magazine has always aimed to provide clear, realistic insights into Hokkaido’s investment and tourism sectors for beginners and those outside the region. Our goal is to educate potential investors and tourists, turning their passive interest into active engagement.

As a media platform, we will continue to support our company’s growth and the development of Hokkaido’s real estate and tourism industries. With the development of “the second Niseko” in areas like Furano and the future opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, the region’s global profile will only continue to rise. Our crucial mission as a Hokkaido-based company is to provide valuable and honest information to as many people as possible through JANKEN Magazine.
